Your face setsthe shape.
A smile is designed to the face it belongs to, not chosen from a catalogue.
Your lips, the centre line of your face and the way your teeth show when you talk set the size and shape of each tooth. The design is drawn over your own photograph, so every decision is made against your face rather than against a model.
You see it as a 3D preview on screen, and the plan moves forward once it is the smile you want.

Five things are decided before a shape is chosen. They are what makes a designed smile read as yours rather than as dentistry.

Digital smile design plans your new smile on your own photographs and scans before any treatment begins. 02What are the steps of a smile design?
There are six: a study of your face with detailed portrait photos, a 3D face scan, a digital scan of your teeth, a check under the microscope, the smile design and 3D preview, and a trial smile with a 3D-printed mock-up.
03Do I need messy moulds for the scan?
No. A small hand-held 3D scanner records every tooth and how your top and bottom teeth meet, with no messy moulds.
04What is the smile try-in?
A 3D-printed mock-up of your designed smile, which we call Testineers. You wear it over your own teeth and see it on your own face before a single tooth is prepared.
05What is checked before any cosmetic work starts?
A full check under the microscope finds anything that needs treating first, so nothing cosmetic is built on a tooth that needs treating.
06Which treatments does smile design lead into?
Veneers, clear aligners and composite bonding are planned with it.
07Do I have to go ahead once I have seen the design?
You decide. The plan moves forward once it is the smile you want, and it is agreed with you before anything is prepared.
